Kit list
By Isaac
It goes without saying that there’s some key equipment necessary to partake in many of these hikes. Therefore, I have written an advised kit list on what I would bring if I were to do some of these hikes.
Obviously some adaptability is required, a 30 mile hike in pouring rain and wind requires different things to a 2 mile hike in fine weather. Nevertheless, I hope this serves as a valuable general guide on what to bring.
- - Fleece / hoodie / jumper
- - Hiking boots: wellies for some short walks, trainers or sandals may work in summer but be prepared to get them muddy
- - Quick drying hiking trousers: not necessary for early walks but really helpful if you’re walking a lot
- - Sweat wicking hiking top: again not necessary but helpful if you’re walking a lot
- - Walking socks: there’s a range of different qualities of socks, merino wool is nice but very expensive, most outdoor retailers do fairly cheap pairs, alternatively darn tough sells amazing socks at £30 a pair
- - Waterproof coat
- - Waterproof trousers: only really needed if muddy and you don’t want your trousers getting muddy
- - Woolly hat
- - Sun hat: yes, you sometimes need both in one walk, such is British weather
- - Gloves
- - Rucksack: for day hikes 20-30l is best
- - Water bottle
- - Paper map
- - Phone
- - Torch
- - Battery pack + charger
- - Flask
- - Lunch / snacks
- - First aid kit
- - Cash
